Privacy Policy

Free Play Games is a small browser games site operated from the United Kingdom. Most of our visitors live in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. There are no user accounts, no logins, no payments, no comments, and no social features. We don't currently run advertising. We use one third-party service — Google Analytics — and only if you choose to allow it.
The short version
We keep one small cookie and a few entries in your browser's local storage so the site can remember your settings and progress. That information stays on your own device.
If you click "Allow analytics" on the banner, we use Google Analytics to see which games are popular. You can change your mind at any time in Settings. See Analytics below for the details.
Our web server keeps short-term access logs, including IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention.
What we store on your device
Cookies set by Free Play Games
fpg_settings— a small cookie that remembers your display and accessibility preferences (color-blind mode, dyslexia-friendly font, high-contrast mode, larger text, dark mode, sound on/off, and your analytics choice). Lasts up to one year.
Cookies set by Google Analytics — only if you have given consent
_ga— used by Google to distinguish individual visitors. Lasts up to 2 years._ga_7C18C7RR5R— used by Google to keep track of your current session. Lasts up to 2 years. (The string at the end is our specific Google Analytics property ID.)
If you have not consented to analytics, no Google cookies are set and no contact is made with Google's servers from your browser.
Local storage — stays on your device, never sent to us or anyone else
fpg_recent— the last few games you opened.fpg_favorites— the games you've starred as favorites.fpg_stats— how many times you've played each game and your best scores or fastest times.fpg_daily— which daily challenges you've completed and your current streak.
You can clear all of this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for free-play-games.com.
What our server records
Like any web server, ours keeps standard access logs for each request: date and time, the page requested, and the visitor's IP address. We use these logs only to investigate abuse or technical issues, and they are typically retained for up to 30 days before being deleted.
Analytics — Google Analytics
If you click "Allow analytics" on our banner (or turn the switch on in Settings), the site loads Google Analytics 4. Google then receives information about your visit, including:
- which pages you viewed and how long you stayed on each,
- your approximate location — country only (we don't share city or finer-grained location),
- the type of device you're using (e.g. desktop, tablet, phone) and the browser,
- the site that referred you to us, if any,
- events for game completions and abandonments, so we know which games people stick with and which ones they give up on,
- an identifier that lets Google count returning visitors without knowing who you are personally.
We have configured Google Analytics to anonymize your IP address before any data is stored. Google does not give us your name, email address, or any other directly identifying information.
What we use this for: understanding which games are popular, where the site has problems, and how to improve the experience.
Our lawful basis under UK GDPR: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). Analytics are off by default. You explicitly choose to turn them on.
Data retention: Google retains the analytics data for up to 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted from their systems.
Where the data is processed: Google Analytics is operated by Google LLC, headquartered in the United States. Your data may be transferred outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area to Google's servers in the United States and elsewhere. Google relies on Standard Contractual Clauses, approved by the European Commission and the UK Information Commissioner's Office, to safeguard those international transfers.
How to opt out: turn off the "Allow Google Analytics" switch in Settings, or click "No thanks" on the consent banner the first time you visit. You can also install Google's official opt-out browser add-on to block Google Analytics on every website you visit.
Future advertising
We don't currently show any advertisements. If we add advertising in the future (most likely Google AdSense or a similar network), we will:
- update this privacy policy to describe exactly what is being added and what data the advertising network will receive;
- add a separate consent switch in Settings so you can accept analytics without accepting advertising, or vice versa;
- ask every visitor to give consent again before any advertising cookies are placed — your previous "Allow analytics" choice will not automatically extend to advertising.
If you'd like advance notice when this changes, the simplest thing is to check back here from time to time — we'll always keep the "Last updated" date at the top of this page accurate.
What we don't do
- We don't currently run advertising. (See Future advertising above.)
- We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone, ever. Sharing visit data with Google Analytics is the only third-party processing, and only with your consent.
- We don't fingerprint your device or track you across other websites.
- We don't load fonts, scripts, stylesheets, or other resources from third-party servers — every asset except Google Analytics is served from our own domain.
- We don't ask you to create an account and we don't collect your name or email address.
Children's privacy
Free Play Games is intended for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the site and you'd like their data removed, contact us at the email address below.
Your rights under UK GDPR (UK and EEA visitors)
You have the right to:
- access any personal data we hold about you,
- have it corrected or erased,
- restrict or object to processing,
- port your data to another service,
- withdraw your consent at any time.
Because everything personal lives on your own device (and, if you consented, on Google's servers), the simplest way to exercise most of these rights is to clear your browser's data for free-play-games.com, turn off analytics in Settings, and — if you wish — install Google's opt-out add-on linked above. If you'd like to ask a question or make a formal request, please email us using the address below.
If you believe we've mishandled your data, you also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- know what personal information we collect about you (described above),
- request a copy of the personal information we hold about you,
- request correction of personal information that is inaccurate,
- request deletion of personal information we hold,
- opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information,
- not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
Categories of personal information we share with Google Analytics. Using the categories set out in California law (Civil Code §1798.140), the personal information disclosed to Google Analytics falls into:
- Identifiers — cookie IDs such as
_gaand_ga_7C18C7RR5R; - Internet or other electronic network activity information — pages viewed, the page that referred you, time on page, game completion / abandonment events;
- Geolocation data — country-level only, derived from your IP address (which we ask Google to anonymize before storage).
We do not sell your personal information for money. The disclosure of your visit data to Google Analytics may count as "sharing" under California law because Google uses that data to improve their services. You can opt out at any time by turning off the Google Analytics switch in Settings, or by clicking "No thanks" on the consent banner.
We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of users under 16 years old.
Authorised agents. You may designate someone else to submit a request on your behalf. We will require written proof that you have authorised the agent to act for you, and we will still need to verify your own identity before we act on the request.
How we verify requests. Because we don't hold accounts, names, or contact details, we'll usually verify a request by asking you to confirm details about your visit (for example, the email address you contact us from, or the approximate date and pages of your visit). For requests touching more sensitive information we may ask for additional verification.
How long we take to respond. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days, as California law requires. If we need an extension we will tell you why and how long it will take; California law allows one additional 45-day extension where reasonably necessary.
Canadian residents (PIPEDA)
If you are a Canadian resident, you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you and to ask us to correct it. The same opt-out and email contact options described above apply.
Safeguards. We protect personal information through technical and organisational measures: the entire site is served over HTTPS so traffic between your browser and our server is encrypted; we hold no names, email addresses, or account data on our servers (we don't ask for them); server access logs are retained for up to 30 days and then deleted; and the only third party that receives any visit data is Google Analytics, with your consent.
Australian and New Zealand residents
The Australian Privacy Act 1988 (and the Australian Privacy Principles it contains) and the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 give you rights similar to those described above — the right to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw your consent to analytics, and complain to your local privacy regulator if you believe we have mishandled your data. The opt-out and email contact options described above apply equally to Australian and New Zealand visitors.
If you believe we have not handled your information properly, you may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or the Office of the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner.
