Gin Rummy

Goal: Form melds (sets and runs) to reduce your deadwood. Be the first to reach 100 points across multiple rounds.

Setup: Each player is dealt 10 cards from a standard 52-card deck. One card is placed face-up to start the discard pile; the rest form the stock.

How to play: On your turn, draw one card from the stock pile or the discard pile. Then discard one card from your hand.

Melds:
Sets – 3 or 4 cards of the same rank (e.g., 7♥ 7♦ 7♣)
Runs – 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., 4♠ 5♠ 6♠)
• Aces are always low (A–2–3, not Q–K–A)

Card values: Face cards (J, Q, K) = 10 points. Aces = 1 point. Number cards = face value. Deadwood is the total value of unmelded cards.

Knocking: If your deadwood totals 10 or less, you may Knock. Your opponent can then "lay off" cards onto your melds. The knocker scores the difference in deadwood.

Gin: If your deadwood is 0, you have Gin – 25 bonus points and your opponent cannot lay off.

Undercut: If the opponent's deadwood is equal to or less than the knocker's, the opponent scores the difference plus a 25-point bonus.

Winning: The game ends when a player reaches 100 points. Use Undo to take back your draw (before discarding).
